William E. Scott Jr. passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025 at Middletown Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Middletown. He was 90 years old.
Bill was born on August 3, 1934, in Albany, NY to the late William E. Scott and Elizabeth A. Hanford. Bill moved with his family to Middletown as a child, from Kinderhook NY.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Eleonore Holden Scott, sons: Thomas H. Scott and wife Doreen of Middletown New York, Peter H. Scott and wife Debra of Maryland New York, grandchildren Lauren E. Scott and fiancée Michael Collins, Erika E. Scott and husband Tjibbe Lambers and Andrew T. Scott, great granddaughter Isla Scott Collins, sister Molly H. Scott and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother David H. Scott, and In-laws Nicholas and Roberta Mabee.
A graduate of Middletown High School Class of 1952, Bill received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Lawrence University in Canton New York. He retired as the financial officer for the Ramapo Catskill Library System.
Bill was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 8 years, after which he was honorably discharged at the rank of First Lieutenant. He was a 66-year member of the Excelsior Hook & Ladder Company No.1 Middletown NY, an Eagle Scout, amateur archeologist and an archivist for the O&W Railroad Historical Society. In addition to his lifelong study of local history, Bill enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, spending time at his beloved Wolf Lake, and especially enjoyed spending time with his treasured grandchildren. His love of family, conservative nature and life lessons will remain with us forever.
