William Irving “Poppa G” Gumaer III, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest unexpectedly at his home on Friday, September 2, 2022. He was 75 years of age.
The son of the late William Irving and Marion Gumaer II, he was born on March 19, 1947 in Middletown, NY.
William was a retired automobile mechanic for Feder’s Auto Sales & Service in Monroe and later at their Middletown location. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam
War and was stationed in Korea. William was a member and Past President of the B & B Hunting Club and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He formerly owned a stock car which they would race at the Orange County Fair Speedway. He would help anyone in need and was known for being a gifted story teller.
Survivors include: his sons, Scott L. Gumaer and William Irving Gumaer IV both of Middletown and Lane R. Gumaer and his wife Denise of Bloomingburg; his grandchildren, Keith, Scott, Hannah & Alayna Gumaer; his brother, Gerald “Jake” Gumaer and his wife Ruth of Warwick and his sister, Michelle Gumaer of Westtown; several nieces & nephews. William was predeceased by his parents, his wife Kathleen M. “Kaye” Gumaer and sister, Judith Schmidt.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-9 PM Thursday, September 8th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Friday, September 9th at the funeral home. Reverend Jeffrey Farley will officiate. Interment will be in the Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY with military honors.
