Thomas P. Cunningham, a 7 year Middletown resident and formerly of Elfrida, AZ and Montgomery, NY, entered into rest on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Promenade at Middletown. He was 96 years of age.
The son of the late Thomas and Starr Powers Cunningham, he was born on September 8, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, NY.
Tom was a retired employment counselor for Letchworth Village in Thiells, NY. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and continued serving in the military for over 25 years. Tom was a member of American Legion Post No. 151 in Middletown and a member of the 82nd Airborne Association the Walter Hughes Chapter in Port Jervis.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of the Promenade at Middletown for their kindness and care given to their father.
Survivors include his children, Thomas G. Cunningham and his wife Rita of Stony Point, NY, Carol M. Cunningham of Port Jervis and Richard P. Cunningham of Chester; his grandchildren, Kristen Rodriguez, JR Stewart, Thomas Sean Cunningham and Alexander Kozykowski; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Tom was predeceased by his wife Ingrid Cunningham and sister Patricia Brett.
Cremation took place at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, July 7th at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 391 Mt. Hope Road, Middletown, NY. Reverend Peter A. Rustico will officiate. Interment of Tom’s cremains with military honors will take place at 11 AM Saturday, July 8th at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY.
Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to American Legion Post No. 151, 185 Wawayanda Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.
