Sheldon Charles Liss

Sheldon Charles Liss, a 15 year resident of Endicott, NY and formerly of Middletown, NY died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY. He was 88 years of age.

The son of the late Albert and Hannah Liss, he was born on March 26, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY.

Sheldon and his family moved to Orange County during the Great Depression where his father started the family business, Al's Tire Service, in Middletown in 1934.

Sheldon proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, returning home in 1946 to help run the family business and marrying Phoebe Liss in 1950. He raised his three children in Middletown where he was an active member of Temple Sinai and the local business community. He was past president of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, and on the board of Head Start.

Although divorced, Sheldon moved further upstate to Endicott in 2000 to be close to his former wife where they enjoyed a close relationship.

Survivors include; his former wife and close friend Phoebe Liss of Endicott; his sons, Michael Liss and wife Marcia of Asheville, NC, Andrew Liss and wife Christine of Vestal, NY, and daughter Leslie Liss of Providence, RI; his five grandchildren, Aaron, Jonathan, Jeremy, Molly and Rachel; his sister June Fisch of Long Island and brother Martin Liss of Florida. He was predeceased by his brother Irwin Liss.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Sunday, March 8th at Temple Sinai, 75 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. Rabbi Joel Schwab will officiate. Interment will be in the Temple Sinai Cemetery, Circleville, NY.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, NY.
