Saimi "Mary" Bensinger

     Saimi “Mary” Bensinger, a 45 year area resident, entered into rest on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, NY. She was 89 years of age.

    The daughter of the late Heikki and Anna Liisa Muhonen Mikkonen, she was born on January 23, 1928 in Tohmajarvi, Finland.

    Mary immigrated to the United States December 14, 1953 and settled in Manhattan where she met and fell in love with her husband Bert, and they married on June 8, 1961. She was very proud of being the only one of her siblings to make it to the United States.

   Mary was a homemaker and formerly was employed as a home healthcare aide with Litson Home Care Services.

    Mary was a confirmed Lutheran. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and riding her bike. She also enjoyed cross country skiing in her younger years.  

    Survivors include her children, Dr. Irma L. Bensinger and her husband Alexander Ross of Glenelg, MD, Curt A. Bensinger and his wife Nancy of Scotchtown, and Carol A. Bensinger of Middletown; her three grandchildren, Madeline and Sophia Ross and Kyle A. Bensinger; numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband Bert F. Bensinger on December 29, 2014 and nine siblings in Europe.

    Family and friends may call at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY on Wednesday, April 5th from 6-9 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Thursday at the funeral home with Reverend Peter A. Rustico officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Airmont Lutheran Cemetery, Suffern, NY.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Mulberry House Seniors in Middletown.
