Sharon Gleason passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on December 15, 2023. She was 75 years of age. She is predeceased by her parents, Albert Eugene Herrington Jr. and Ruth Bulson, and her fiancé of 25 years, H. Ray Barnes. Sharon is survived by her sister, Brenda Van Ness (Gregory), her children, Heather Wager (Jim), Heidi DelValle, Craig Barnes (Val). Sharon was grandmother to Destinee, Kendrick and Syeira DelValle, Nicholas and Christopher Wager and Ian and Trevor Barnes. She was great-grandmother to Javion Allen.
As a child, Sharon grew up in the Stony Point Battlefield and then later lived in Bear Mountain as her father worked for the State. It was a special childhood that provided access to the State Park facilities offering a huge backyard for Sharon and Brenda.
Sharon graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1966 and began her career as a cosmetologist in West Point, NY. She was a stay-at-home Mom when her daughters were young. In 1978 when her daughters were in primary school, she began work for the County of Orange. She retired in 2014 from the Department of Social Services as senior payroll clerk with 36 years of service.
Sharon was extremely fond of cleaning, much like her mother who we are sure has heaven whipped into shape by now. She was also meticulous about each hair being in place prior the leaving her home.
Sharon enjoyed being a daughter, sister, niece, cousin, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very loving and nurturing toward the family and was always there to help, encourage and support each of them at any time. She was proud to be great-grandmother to Javion and enjoyed babysitting for him before he entered pre-school.
Sharon was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed. Another angel is watching over us.
Visitation will be on Friday December 22, 2023 from 3 pm - 7 pm at the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
