Rosa Boone Obituary

Rosa Marie Boone was born on January 3, 1928 to Alice Allen and Benjamin Jackson in Washington, D.C.  Surrounded by her extended family of several aunts, Skeeter, as she was lovingly called, was raised by her grandfather, Eddie Allen, on the family farm in Warrenton, NC.  In this little town, she attended Coley Springs Baptist Church, grew in her faith, was baptized and graduated from Edward R. Hawkins High School in 1946

Rosa moved to the Bronx, NY and lived with her beloved Aunt Pauline and Uncle Derry.  Intrigued by a young man, Chester Boone Jr., practicing trumpet in a nearby apartment window, a courtship led to fifty-five years of marriage.  They were blessed with a daughter, Carol Ann in 1950.

A dedicated and loving wife and mother, Rosa created a warm and inviting home for her husband and daughter and a place where friends and family were always welcomed.

Known for her delicious chocolate layer cake, apple cake, scrumptious apple pies and Christmas butter cookies, sharing these treats was her pleasure.

Rosa was a faithful member of Greater Victory Baptist Church in Bronx, NY.  She joyfully served on the Pastor’s Aid Committee.  With this group, she traveled to The Bahamas, Mexico, Curacao and Canada.  Her dear cousin, Verneta Cheek was her travel buddy!

Rosa and Chester eventually moved to the Sutton Hill Apartments in Middletown to be closer to their daughter Carol where they lived until Chester’s passing in 2003.  Rosa then lived with Carol until 2019 until her declining health made it necessary for her to reside at Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Goshen, NY.

Rosa gave one on one conversations with family and friends her full, undivided attention and supported and genuinely rejoiced in everyone’s accomplishments, both big and small.

Although predeceased by many loved ones, including her siblings Jesse, Richard, Clementine and Alice, Rosa will live on in the hearts of her nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends.  Most of all, she will be greatly missed by her beloved daughter, Carol.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility Center for the wonderfully kind and compassionate care given to Rosa.
