Robert J. Mc Ateer Sr. a lifelong resident of the area was laid into God’s loving arms on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, after a short illness; while recovering at home. An Entrepreneur; and Owner/Operator of the former “Silver Dollar Bar and Restaurant.” Previously retired from the Archdiocese of New York; serving Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica, in Brooklyn. He was 87 years old.
The son of the late Margaret and Joseph Mc Ateer; born in Manhattan, NY. He was the youngest of 10 siblings; predeceased as follows: Gertrude Keeler, Ann Mc Ateer, Cecelia Hall, Madeline Marquis, Margaret Williams, Josephine Rogers. Brothers: Charles Mc Ateer, George Mc Ateer, Edward Mc Ateer. Deceased brother in laws include: James Keeler, Frank Hall, Joseph Marquis, James Rogers. Robert was also predeceased by his son Robert Mc Ateer Jr, and Son in law: Joe Blackwell.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Denise Mc Ateer, at home, mother in law; Marilyn Guida, brother in law; Steven V. Guida, daughter Gail Blackwell, grandchildren: William and his wife Jen, Christopher and his wife Meghan, Kevin and his wife Danielle, Deborah and her husband Timothy Conboy in addition to Robert Jr’s children; Gregory and Trish Mc Ateer. Great grandchildren: Liam and Bryn Blackwell, Michael Conboy, and Skylar Mc Ateer. Surviving brother in law; James Williams, and daughter in law; Jayna Mc Ateer; sister-in-law Janet McAteer. Also, several nieces and nephews.
Robert was a former member of, The Scotchtown Presbyterian Church; where he proudly served as a Deacon, truly living up to the task of serving God, the church and it’s congregants. Currently, he was attending weekly service; at the Otisville Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church. Everybody loved Bob, for his compassion, loyalty, quick wit and sense of humor, always made people laugh. His favorite saying was, “The joy it brings me to see happiness, through someone else’s eyes.” It gave him much joy bringing happiness to others. He enjoyed traveling, the beach, dancing, joking, tinkering, and all phases of construction a jack of all trades. He loved this country, and his fellow man, enjoyed working and keeping busy.
A statement from his wife reads: “May the road rise to meet you and the wind be always at your back, may the sunshine warm upon your face, and until we meet again in the Kingdom of Heaven; when God isn’t holding you in the palm of his hand, keep your toes in the sand. Meet me at the gate; and we shall walk hand in hand, to our eternal beach in heaven. Rest in peace my love!”
Reverend Jeffrey Farley will officiate a graveside service of cremains at, The Scotchtown Cemetery, on Blumel Rd in Middletown on: Wednesday, July 5th at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to; The Middletown Humane Society, Pets Alive, or The Hudson Valley Food Bank.
