Robert J. Benedict

Robert J. Benedict, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Saturday, June 3rd at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. He was 76 years of age.

      Son of the late Francis and Margaret Benedict, he was born on May 5, 1947 in Middletown, NY.

      Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1969-1974.

      Bob carried on a family tradition by owning and operating W.F. Benedict & Son Monuments in Middletown. He had a strong work ethic and was caring and compassionate to each family he served. Along with continuing the family business, he served as superintendent of the historic Hillside Cemetery and oversaw the day to day operation and keeping it a beautiful place to be laid to rest.  Bob was a humble man and had a passion for cars and music. He loved the musicians he played with over the years and memories of playing keyboards and bass with the Storm Kings. The stories were endless. His conversations about classic cars and the music with his many friends will be missed. Bob enjoyed family outings and derived pleasure from watching everyone having a great time.

      Survivors include: his wife, Colleen Benedict; his son, David Benedict and his mother, Janice Benedict; his daughter, Yvonne Kolinski; his brother Dr. William Benedict; grandson Ricky Faubert and his wife Johanna; his in-laws, Paul & Kim Mita, Arthur & Lisa Soderblom, Ronald & Maymarie Veety and Lynn Veety; many nieces & nephews ; his beloved dogs Bridgit & Buddy and cat Percy. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Mark Veety.

      In accordance with Bob’s wishes, no services will be held. Following cremation in Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY a private interment will take place in the Benedict family plot in Hillside Cemetery, Middletown.

   Arrangements have been entrusted to Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, NY.
