Richard M. “Dick” Dodd, of Middletown, NY passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, NY. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late Mahlon and Abbie Dodd, he was born on July 29, 1931 in Middletown, NY.
Dick was a graduate of Middletown High School. At the age of 14, he delivered flyers for Ed Lloyd and eventually became manager of Lloyd’s located on Knapp Avenue in Middletown. When Lloyd’s store opened on Rte. 211 in Middletown, he became Vice President of Company Operations. After leaving Lloyd’s, he was employed as a product director for Big V Supermarkets in Florida, NY. He served in the Army National Guard in the 170th Field Artillery Battalion from 1947 to 1959, and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. Dick was a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge for 54 years, and was a Charter Member of the Laurel Hunting Club in Turnwood, NY. He was also a member of the Shawangunk Snowmobile and Rescue Club in Pine Bush where he received an Honorary Lifetime Membership.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years and caregiver, Helen Jane Dodd at home in Middletown; his daughter Karen Delillo and her husband Chris of Middletown; step-sons Timothy and wife Francine Niesolowski of Goshen and Cris Niesolowski and Wendy of Middletown; granddaughters Melissa Henderson and husband Matt of Middletown, Sierra Niesolowski of Port Jervis; great grandchildren Anthony and Ciara Henderson of Middletown; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Behn and husband George of Malden Bridge, NY and Marjory Shoemaker and husband Albert of Port Jervis.
Family and friends may visit from 4-8 PM Thursday, December 7th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY.
Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Friday, December 8th at the funeral home. Reverend Peter A. Rustico will officiate. Interment will be in the Wallkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions in Dick’s honor be sent to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104
