Rhoda Malafsky died recently after recurring illnesses over the past 2 years. She lived in Augusta, WV on a beautiful property facing a mountain and containing trees, ponds, and frequent wildlife visitors. This allowed her to enjoy her last years surrounded by the beauty of nature that was her passion throughout her life. She was a dedicated teacher of biology at Minisink Valley High School, Slate Hill, NY and lived in Middletown, NY for many years. She encouraged intellectually gifted students to pursue science and always expand their knowledge and appreciation of nature. She was an early adherent of environmental and animal welfare causes. Her husband Philip Malafsky died in 1991. She had two sons, Stephen who died of cancer in 2016, and Geoffrey who lives in Fairview, TX with his wife Deborah. Rhoda loved her grandson Jacob who lives in Astoria, Queens, NY with his wife Marisa and their daughter (Rhoda’s great granddaughter). She was a member of Temple Sinai while living in Middletown. Graveside Services will be held 12 Noon, Sunday August 20th in the Temple Sinai Cemetery, 2420 Route 302, Circleville, NY 10919.
