Patrick Carey Obituary

Patrick M. Carey, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Friday, May 5, 2023 in the Town of Goshen, NY. He was 46 years of age.

He was born on May 25, 1976 at Horton Memorial Hospital, Middletown, NY, the son of Michael J. Carey and Elaine Schoeneberger Carey.

Pat became the first Eagle Scout of Boy Scout Troop 169, Otisville., NY in 1990.  He graduated from Minisink Valley High School in 1994.

In 1996 he left OCCC after a year to pursue his hobby of building car stereo systems. At that time he attended Mobile Dynamics in Toronto, Canada, taking several courses in the field of mobile electronics installation, graduating at the top of his class.

Returning home he started working in the car stereo business, which lead him to working at Caps Plus in Goshen, NY.  After a couple of changes in ownership, Patrick bought the business in 2010.

Along with the sales and installation of truck caps and associated truck equipment and electronics, he expanded into the service and repair of trailers, attracting a following of folks in the equine industry, manufacturing parts and repairing horse and livestock trailers.

Patrick also expanded into the machine shop business. He bought and rehabilitated older lathes and milling machines, bringing them back to original specs, while educating and teaching himself how to use and operate this machinery.  This enabled him to manufacture parts for equipment that was no longer available, including farm equipment, community water and sewer systems, as well as truck and trailer parts.

Patrick loved action motor sports, amassing nine motorcycles and ATV’s, eight jet skis and half a dozen snowmobiles.  Pat was so looking forward to working with and teaching his nephew, Fenton, how to ride and operate a small dirt bike and hoped to instill in him a love for the outdoors and action motor sports too.

Pat is survived by his mother and father, Elaine and Mike Carey,  of Howells, NY; his sister Andrea and her husband, Ryan Jinks;  nephew,  Fenton Jinks, and niece, Freya Jinks,  all of Warwick, NY, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday, May 11th at Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, May 12th at the funeral home. Reverend Jeffrey Farley will officiate. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
