Max Sommerstein

Max Sommerstein, a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, NY. He was 90 years of age.

The son of the late David and Rachel Weisser Sommerstein, he was born on November 25, 1924 in Poland.

Max was a retired partner of the accounting firm Judelson, Rosen, Sommerstein & Giordano in Middletown. Max proudly served his country in the U. S Army during WWII. He was an active member of Temple Sinai in Middletown and served as the treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Men's Club of Temple Sinai. Max was very active with Jewish Family Services, a former member of SCORE and Middletown Rotary Club. He was a board member of the former Southwinds Retirement Home and former member of Homemakers of Orange County. Max was a member of the New York State CPA Society and served as President of the Mid-Hudson Chapter of CPA'S from 1971-72.

Survivors include; his daughters Rachelle Sanborn of Middletown and Caren Schwartz and her husband Russell of New City; his grandchildren, Lindsey Winer of Middletown, Leah Schwartz Frank and her husband Marc of Nyack, and Reid Schwartz of New Paltz; his nephew Harold Schulman and wife Christine of Geneva, IL. Max was predeceased by his wife Dorothy on January 15, 2012, and his sister Edith Schulman.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank his "Special Angels" Shirley Constant and Patricia Bell for their loving care and friendship.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Temple Sinai, 75 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. Rabbi Joel Schwab will officiate. Interment will be in Temple Sinai Cemetery, Circleville, NY.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, NY.
