Madeleine McMahon, 86, a 45-year resident of the area, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at O.R.M.C. Horton Campus, Middletown.
The daughter of Coleman O'Malley and Katherine Coleman O'Malley, she was born April 18, 1921 in New York, N.Y. She was the widow of James J. McMahon, who predeceased her May 22, 1983.
She was a retired Elementary School Teacher, having taught at the Mechanicstown Elementary School.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Middletown; a member of the National Audubon Society; volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Reading for the Blind, St. Margaret's Soup Kitchen and Literacy Volunteers.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean McMahon Engbretson and husband, Peter of Philadelphia, Pa. and Carol Thalhimer and husband, Charles of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Brian McMahon of Bricktown, N.J. and Richard McMahon of Middletown; seven grandchildren: Caitlin Engbretson, Margaret Thalhimer, Charles Thalhimer, Jessica McMahon, James McMahon, Richard McMahon, and Patrick McMahon and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, James J. McMahon; brother, Nicholas O'Malley and sisters, Ruth Reynolds and Carol Shropshire.
Friends may call at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown on Friday, July 20 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21 in St. Joseph's Church, Cottage St., Middletown. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Middletown.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 50 East Main St., Middletown, NY 10940 or to the Guild of St. Margaret Soup Kitchen, 12 Depot St., Middletown, NY 10940.
