Lowell Michael Hulse Reagan, of Myrtle Beach, SC and formerly of Howells, NY, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. He was 88 years of age.
The son of the late William and Bertha Reagan, he was born on January 22, 1936.
Lowell grew up on a farm on Mt. Hope Road in Middletown and he worked the farm as he went to school until the farm was sold when he was 16 years old. He worked as a route driver, picking up milk in 10 gallon steel containers from area farms and delivering them to local dairy processors. He also delivered grain and general farm supplies to area farms. Lowell moved on to driving a tractor trailer, hand loading 35 to 40 foot trailers at the ports in New York City and driving straight through to Buffalo. There, he would unload by hand, reload, and head to the next destination ultimately making a loop back to New York City.
In 1958 Lowell joined the U.S. Army. While serving in the motor pool, he hauled rocket propulsion parts from Huntsville, AL to Cape Canaveral, FL for Project Mercury and some other space programs. He also transported Army brass when needed. In 1962, he was honorably discharged and moved back to his hometown in Orange County. He started Reagan Trucking & Excavation in 1962 and he started his family in 1964. Lowell worked hard all of his life. He was a good husband, a good father and a good friend to many. Behind the scenes, he would help out less fortunate people in the community. His son Lowell Jr. remembers as a child riding along with his dad plowing snow from driveways of elderly people, afterward knocking on their door and going in to check on them. He often came out with only a $5 or $10 bill because that was all they could afford, and he was okay with that.
Lowell had a soft spot in his heart for War Veterans, and for many years until his passing, he had donated to related organizations to help out American Veterans.
Survivors include; his wife Jeanne Reagan; his children, Lowell Reagan Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kelly Reagan of Monroe, NY, Antoinette Eason and husband Mark of Middletown, NY, Michael Martine and his wife Melissa of Shawboro, NC; his grandchildren, Lowell Reagan III, Cassandra Eason, Helena Eason, Anna Toomey, Jamison Martine and Alexis Martine.
