On January 12, 2020 Laura Torres (nee Perez) decided that a month and a half away from her
darling Henry, the love of her life, was long enough. She probably didn’t want to miss out on all
the fun he must be having in heaven. Laura was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on August 28,
1924 to Maria Gonzalez and Doroteo Perez. She dedicated her life to the service of others,
whether it was making sure her husband of 72 years was taking his insulin or caring for the
many foster children that graced her home. Laura was the matriarch of her family and she
never let you forget it, the FBI had nothing on her ability to find out your deepest secrets then
say “ay eso no es nada, no te preocupes” (that’s nothing, don’t worry about it) and make you
truly believe that it was going to be okay.
She is survived by her daughter Milagros Torres of the Bronx NY, sons Henry Torres and his wife Ana of Middletown, NY, Philip Torres and his wife
Gladys of Clermont,FL and Andrew Colon and his wife Teresa of Winston Salem, North
Carolina. Her loving nieces Carmen Jorge and Mercedes (Toni) Franco of Orlando, FL. Her
grandchildren Tanya Hernandez of the Bronx NY, Charisse Corbin and husband Thomas of
Leesburg, FL, Janelle Andujar Torres and her wife Theresa of Middletown, NY, and Andrew and
his wife Jhanat of North Carolina. Her 9 great-grandchildren Kaiya, Ava, Yaritza, Carlos
(Stephanie), Destiny, Serenity, Alexander, Gabriel and Alina. She will be forever missed but we
are grateful for the time we had and can rest easy knowing that she is where she wanted to be,
dancing at the gates of heaven with her coco head.
A Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, January 15th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY.
Cremation will take place at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
