JOSEPH A. KANAN entered into rest on June 6th at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL. He
He was the son of the late Simon and Jennie Kanan, born in Middletown, NY on July 1, 1921.
Mr. Kanan was President and Owner of North End Sales and Curtain Land in resides in Middletown, NY and Palm City, FL.Middletown, NY. He was a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge #1097, American Legion Post #151 and was an Honorary Member of the Orange County Golf Club, Middletown, NY and a member of Monarch Country Club, Palm City, FL. He was a Tax Aid and Instructor for AARP. He worked for 25 years on the Middletown Open in Port St. Lucie; his hard work always made it a success.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Emsley Kanan and son Timothy Kanan and wife Donna of Middletown, NY and stepsons Robert Ledrich and wife Debbie of Poughkeepsie, NY and Stephen Ledrich and wife Wendy of Poughkeepsie, NY. He has several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He will sadly be missed by his two granddaughters Christine Kanan DiPoala and Kimberly Kanan Gray and four grandsons Thomas Kanan, Jr and his wife Jacqueline, Robert, Michael and Patrick Ledrich.
He is also survived by two sisters, Syria Grayeb and Madelyn Mahran. He was predeceased by his son Thomas Kanan, brothers Edward, Alfonso and sister Nazley Wylie.
Family statement read, "Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He had a kind heart. Those who knew him, knew they were blessed to have him as a part of their lives. We will miss his smile and gentle touch and hearty laugh."
Visitation will be at Cornelius Dodd & Connell, Inc. Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, NY 10940 on Sunday, June 10 from 3 to 6 PM
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, 131 Boyd Street, Montgomery, NY on Monday, June 11 at 10:30 A M , with burial immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery, 149Cottage Street, Middletown, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Treasure Coast Hospices, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997 or Multiple Sclerosis Association, Southern NY Chapter, 2 Gannett Drive, Suite LC, White Plains, NY 10604.
