Jean Dolan Obituary

Jean Ann Dolan, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Saturday, June 14, 2025 with her loving husband by her side. She was 78 years of age.

The daughter of the late Charles Henry and Marjorie Mae Theis, she was born on January 18, 1947 in Goshen, NY.

Jean graduated from SUNY Orange and SUNY Oneonta with a degree in education.  Jean was a proud graduate of Minisink Valley High School, Slate Hill, NY, where she taught first grade for 34 years.  Through her years of teaching, Jean kept in touch with many of her former students and even taught several of their children.

Jean was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association,

The Bible Students Association, the Tri-State Car Club, Orange County Antique Auto Club and other various clubs and organizations.  She enjoyed meeting new people at events and making lifelong friends from around the world.

Jean’s family was her priority. She loved spending time with them whether it was watching a movie, watching the grandchildren dance, attending school plays, concerts, recitals, going for ice cream in the rat rod, reading books, or singing. You can bet Jean was front and center cheering and encouraging them every time. Family was first and foremost in her life.

Jean also loved to travel as often as possible. Any kind of an adventure, live music, nature, fashion and a unique find at a vintage store or yard sale was welcomed. You would often hear of Jean setting sail on a cruise to the Caribbean. She would never return from a trip without bringing back some treasured items from her travels for her loved ones. One of her favorite vacationing places for many years was Assateague Island in Maryland where she could sit by the ocean and see the wild horses.

Jean would reunite with friends from across the country while there.  Jean’s love of nature would often bring her to the Orange County Arboretum where she took in the sights of all the beautiful flowers, trees and bushes that are locally grown.

Like her mom, she loved the Bible and the promises contained therein (Revelations 21:4). Through the Bible and her faith, Jean made life long connections and friendships with people around the world.  She was a true lover of the gift of life.

Survivors include: her loving and devoted husband Joseph Matthew Dolan; her children, Joseph Matthew Dolan and Joanna Mae Dolan; her grandchildren, Julianna Belle Browning, Brielle Magnolia Browning, Mirabelle Autumn Browning, Josiah Samuel Dolan and Kianna Jade Dolan; her brother Charles H. Theis and his wife Kelly; and niece Allison Lindsey Theis.

A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-7 PM Friday, June 27, at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY.  A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM Saturday, June 28th at her daughter’s home.

Jean’s most precious joy was doing all she could for her grandchildren. Any memorial contributions will be put in trusts for her grandchildren’s education and can be made directly to her family.  As a lifelong educator, providing towards her grandchildren’s future was a priority that she would love to see continued.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, NY.
