Irma L. O’Connell, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Middletown Park in the Town of Wallkill, NY. She was 96 years of age.
The daughter of the late Wesley V. and Helen Ebert Labagh, she was born on July 9, 1925 in the Town of Wallkill, NY.
Irma was formerly employed as a finger print classifier with the F.B.I. and later was employed as a waitress at Gobeo’s Restaurant in Middletown. She was a 56 year member of the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, a member of the Mt. Hope Seniors, the Country Garden Club, Ladies Auxiliary of Floyd Carter Post 1079 of the American Legion, a volunteer of Orange Regional Medical Center Horton Campus, and a Meals on Wheels volunteer in Otisville.
Survivors include: her children, Edwin G. O’Connell Jr. and his wife Karen of Middletown, William M. O’Connell and his wife Brenda of Otisville, Deborah L. Smith and her husband John of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kevin R. O’Connell I and his wife Debbie of Middletown, and Thomas P. O’Connell and his wife Ginny of Middletown; 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren, nieces & nephews; her sister Gertrude Sarinsky of New Windsor. Irma was predeceased by her husband Edwin G. “Lefty” O’Connell, daughters Patricia L. Clemons and Barbara “Bobbi” Lahey, grandson Joseph O’Connell, brothers Wesley E., George A. & Robert J. Labagh.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-8 PM Friday, June 24th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 25th at the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, 25 Main St., Otisville, NY. Reverend Jeffrey Farley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Bloomingburg, NY.
