Ina S. Markowitz
Ina S. Markowitz, a homemaker and area resident since 2001, passed peacefully at home in Walden on Monday, December 12, 2005. She was 90 years old.
The daughter of Samuel Kosofski and Lena Baff Kosofsky, she was born April 11, 1915 in New York, N.Y.
She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was a top priority and her great joy and delight. She was an avid reader with an unquenchable intellectual curiosity. Her love of learning was transferred to her family.
Mrs. Markowitz formerly lived in Patchogue, N.Y., Jamesburg, N.J. and Elant at Goshen, N.Y.
She was a member and past president of the Brandeis Women's National Organization in Patchogue, N.Y.; she was a talented oil painter; and a great lover of the opera and classical music. She had a passion for African violets and orchids, and at one time owned over 100 African violets.
She was the beloved mother of Ronald S. Markowitz and his wife, Joan, of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Laurence S. Markowitz and his wife, Shelley, of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., and Cathy J. Markowitz of Walden, and her former husband, Malcolm S. Meyerson, of Middletown; six grandchildren: David Markowitz and his wife, Judith, Joshua Markowitz, Matthew Meyerson and his wife, Christina, Daniel Meyerson and his wife, Lori, Rachel Markowitz and Allison Markowitz; five great-grandchildren: Meghan Meyerson, Gabrielle Meyerson, Erin Meyerson, Alexandra Markowitz, and Amanda Markowitz.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Irving W. Markowitz; three brothers: William, Joseph and Herbert Kasoff; and one sister, Phyllis Markowitz.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Cantor Sheila Pearl will officiate.
A Memorial Celebration on Ina's life, along with a tree planting, will be held in Walden in the Spring of 2006.
