Helen Eleanor Morris

Helen Eleanor Morris passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Park Manor in Middletown, NY. She was 98 years old.

    Helen was born December 14, 1924 to the late Arthur and Jessie Calhoun. She was the widow of Charles Morris.

    She graduated from Middletown High School in 1943 and continued her education at St. Luke’s Nursing School in Newburgh, NY. While enrolled in the nursing program, she entered the Cadet Nurse Corp and graduated as a registered nurse in 1947.

    Helen met her husband Charles while he was on his military leave and they wed in 1947. Together they raised three children; Charles, Judith & Cynthia. Once their children were all in school, Helen went to work at Horton Hospital as a labor/delivery room nurse where she remained for over 30 years. She retired in 1988.

    Helen was devoted to her family. Beginning in the early 1980’s, she began taking her grandchildren to Maine every summer. As the grandchildren grew up, she continued the tradition to visit Maine with the grandchildren and great grandchildren even in her 90’s. She was an extremely special person and her family absolutely loved her.

    Helen is survived by her son, Dr. Charles Morris & his wife Diane of Tallahassee, FL; two daughters, Judith Schartmann & her husband Walter of Vernal, Utah, Cynthia Holohan & her husband Dennis of Middletown. Grandchildren, Allan Schartmann & his wife Jamie of Williston, ND, Emily Beakes & her partner Calvin Kelton of Wakefield, MA, Daniel Schartmann & his wife Stacey of Reedley, CA, grandson-in-law Kevin Lorme of Astoria, NY, Wendy Holohan & her husband Tom of Geneva, Switzerland, Brian Holohan & his wife Kristin of Quakertown, PA, Jennifer Holohan-Ferrer & her husband Jordi of Wurtsboro, NY; great grandchildren Caitlin, Chloe, Diego, Lexie, Elizabeth, Stella, Malcolm, Andrew, Tyler, Helen, Dylan, Parker, Masen & Berlin. Numerous nieces & nephews. Helen was predeceased by her parents, sister June, husband Charles & granddaughter Dr. Jennifer Beakes.

   The family would like to thank the staff at Park Manor for their kindness and care.

    Graveside services will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 30th at the Hillside Cemetery, 50 Mulberry St., Middletown, NY.
