Donald N. Schoen, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Montgomery, NY. He was 75 years of age.
The son of the late Norman and Nancy Schoen, he was born on December 19, 1948 in Jersey City, NJ.
Donald had been employed on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ and most recently retired from the Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center in New Hampton where he was a supervisor.
Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a medic and was attached to the First Marine Division in the field during Viet Nam and received a Purple Heart as a result.
He was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church in Port Jervis and had served as a trustee. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping around the U.S. in his RV. He was a former softball player and Aikido Sensei and instructor.
Survivors include: his loving wife, Suzanne Schoen; his granddaughter Kiara Donley; his sons Scott Schoen his wife Jennifer and their sons Matthew & Lucas, and Eric Schoen; step-daughters Crystal Donley & Beth Valles; step-grandchildren Zachary, Kayla & Lucas; step-great grandchildren Morgan, Ramona, Rowan, Tyrone, Gideon, Pruett & Arlo; his sisters Nancy Schoen Dunn & husband Henry, Joanne Schoen & Barbara Schoen Ritchie & husband Joe; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, his sister Judy Raymond & brother Ricky Schoen.
Cremation took place at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held 11 AM Wednesday, October 2nd at the Drew United Methodist Church, 49-51 Sussex St., Port Jervis, NY. Pastor Kwonjae Lee & Pastor Robert Cassidy will officiate.
A repast will follow the services at V.F.W. Post 161, 47-51 Owen St., Port Jervis, NY.
Interment of Donald’s cremains will take place at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions honoring Donald may be made to any Viet Nam Veteran’s Organization.
