Donald A. Dodd Sr.

    Donald A. “Pop” Dodd Sr., a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY.  He was 83 years of age.

    The son of the late Harold John and Anna Bennett Dodd Jr., he was born on May 15, 1933 in Middletown, NY.

    Don retired as a fleet mechanic for the Minisink Valley School District bus garage and had formerly been a dairy farmer. He was a member of the CSEA and an avid stock car fan and former driver and ardent supporter of his son’s, granddaughter and grandsons racing activities. For Don it was all about his children and their children, and they were his world.

    Survivors include his children, Donald A. Dodd Jr. and his wife Karen of Howells, Nancy I. Fitzgerald and her husband Patrick of Chesterfield, VA, Ann Marie Vavricka and her husband Charles of Howells, and Michael A. Dodd and his wife Mary of Middletown; his step-son David Creeden Jr. of the State of Florida; his grandchildren, Amanda Shill, Jaime Shill, Alyssa Stevens, Felicia Vavricka, Zachary Vavricka , David Creeden III and Ashley Creeden; his great grandchildren, Patrick, Mackenzie, Olivia, Kayley and Kriztian; his sister-in-law Katherine Dodd of Howells and nephews Daniel Dodd and his wife April of Jacksonville, FL and David Dodd of Howells. He was predeceased by his brother Douglas A. Dodd.

   Family and friends may call from 9:30 -11 AM Saturday, May 6th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY. Services will begin at 11 AM with Reverend Jeffrey Farley officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery in Otisville.

    Memorial contributions in Don’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Middletown, 142 Bloomingburg Road, Middletown, NY 10940.
