David Charles Halstead, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. He was 65 years of age.
The son of the late Robert and Lura Halstead Sr., he was born on September 29, 1949 in Otisville, NY.
David had been employed as a custodian with the Middletown School District then at West Point as a heating, air conditioning and ventilation trainee and most recently as a self-employed roofer and painter.
David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a wonderful artist, loved fishing, playing horseshoes, music, traveling and hanging out by the bonfire especially with Bob, Dave and Andy.
Survivors include; his wife of 30 years Nora E. Halstead at home in Monticello; three brothers, Robert Halstead Jr. of Otisville, Kenneth Halstead and his wife Alice of Cuddebackville, and Dennis Halstead and his wife Margie of the State of Florida; sisters Dawn and Darcie McGarvey of Kingston; nephews and nieces including Eric Halstead, Marissa Halstead, Jarod Halstead, Corey Halstead, Shawn Halstead, Kyle Halstead, Gregory Cabrera, Lisa Labianca, Vicki Fitzhugh; his father-in-law Kenneth Bowden of Oxford, NY. David was predeceased by his parents, his brother William Halstead, mother-in-law Nancy Bowden and step-father by whom he was raised Ellis McGarvey.
Cremation will take place at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, April 25th in the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, Main St., Otisville, NY. The Reverend Jeffrey Farley will officiate.
Memorial Contributions in David's name may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Orange County Chapter 140, P.O. Box 171, New Hampton, NY 10958-0171.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, NY.
