David Jay Cohen

I wanted to share the sad news that David passed away on August 15th after a long illness. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.

David Jay Cohen died peacefully after a long illness on August 15, 2023 in Bluffton, SC.  Special thanks are given to all who helped with his care.

David was born on March 13, 1940 in Middletown, New York.  His deceased parents were Judith and Jules Cohen.  Predeceased also were his beloved Uncle David Cohen and sister Patricia and her husband Andy Krotje, and stepson Mark Lindland.

Survivors include his devoted wife Pat, brother William, and his wife MaryAnn, stepdaughter Lisa Racz and family.  He will be missed by many cousins and nieces and nephews.

David graduated from Middletown High School in 1958, where he enjoyed playing football and having fun with friends, many of which he kept in touch with.  He graduated from Orange County Community College with an Associate’s Degree.  He worked at car dealerships in Middletown.  He helped his father Jules by bartending at his pub.

He entered the Air Force in 1963.  After the service he joined his former teacher, John Cosgrove, in the insurance business.  He worked for Equitable/AXA Insurance for many years.  David was married to the former Laura Susan Collard.  After his divorce, in 1999 David met and married the former Patricia Lindland of Goshen, NY where they lived until retiring.  David supported Pat with the Relay for Life sponsored by St. James Episcopal Church.

Pat and David moved full-time to Sun City in Bluffton, SC  in 2009.  David loved the New York Giants, the New York Yankees, and playing golf with friends.  He loved playing table tennis with Tom Godwin, and playing Pinochle with the guys.  He loved antiques and looking for special bargains.  David and Pat could be seen in later years walking around Lake Somerset and the neighborhood.  They enjoyed many friends and family.

David’s quiet manner, sense of style, wonderful smile, reliability, and goodness will be treasured by all who knew him.

Burial at the Temple Sinai Cemetery in Circleville, NY will be held at a later date.
