Charles Newkirk Jr. Obituary

 

    Charles (Charlie) J. Newkirk, Jr., of Middletown, New York, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2021.  He was the son of the late Charles J., Sr. and Myrtle (Masker) Newkirk.  He was born on September 28, 1931, in Unionville, New York.  Charlie graduated from Middletown High School in 1951, where he excelled in baseball, basketball, and football.  Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served during the Korean War and was later stationed at Ardmore Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

 Charlie married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Lewis, on April 13, 1952, at Webb Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church.  He was very active in golf, fast pitch softball in the local City league, served as a football referee in the Hudson Valley, and was a lifetime member of Elks BPOE #1097.  He retired in 1986 from Norstar Bank (now Bank of America) as Senior Vice President in the Installment Loans and Mortgage Division.  He was a graduate of Orange County Community College (where he later taught as an adjunct professor) and Rutgers School of Banking.

   Charlie and his wife moved to Florida, where they resided for 18 years, and then relocated to Shallotte, North Carolina for 10 years, making many wonderful friends through their travels.  In 2014, they returned to Middletown, New York to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

    Survivors include his daughters Michele Predmore (Todd), Valerie Kilcoin (William), and Cynthia Carey (Mark) and son C. Roland Newkirk (Andrea); his grandchildren Michael Predmore (Donna), Caitlin Wilbert (Mike), Tyler Kilcoin, Christopher Predmore, and Hope and Lily Newkirk; great-grandchildren Timothy Flannery (Tori) and Kaesyn Predmore; sister-in-law Beverly Farkus (Andy); and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his loving wife Barbara and cherished grandson Zachary, as well as his 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

   The family would like to thank the staff at Braemar Assisted Living Facility , Middletown, NY and the Doctors and staff at Garnet Health Medical Center, Middletown, NY for the compassionate care given to our father.

  Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, New York.  A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Middletown, 25 Orchard Street, Middletown, New York. 

   Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Hudson Valley, 2649 South Road #101, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

  Arrangements have been entrusted to Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, NY.
