Caroline Janiak Smiklo passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Thursday, June 9, 2022 after a long life. She was 97 years of age. She spent her last years in Princeton, NJ, to be closer to family.
Caroline was born on December 8, 1924 in Edenville, Town of Warwick, NY, to the late William Janiak, father, and the late Stella Dembeck Janiak, mother. Caroline was a graduate of the Warwick High School, Class of 1943. She was married to the late Stanley Smiklo of Florida, NY.
Caroline was a long time resident of the City of Middletown, NY. She was a secretary for 23 years to five City Clerk & Treasurers in Middletown, and served as secretary for 41 years to the Middletown Electrical Licensing Board.
Caroline was a 48 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Middletown, as well as being a 1989-90 President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, New York State Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Goshen and was a Lifetime Member.
Survivors include her two loving daughters, Linda Smiklo Fox and her husband, Robin Fox, and Charmaine Smiklo, all of Princeton, NJ, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Janet Smykla, and brothers Walter, Edward, and Vincent Janiak.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 14th, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Wednesday, June 15th, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Euclid Avenue Ext., in Middletown. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Florida, NY.
