Barbara Wood passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Middletown, New York at the age of 92. She was born in Central Square, NY on July 23, 1929 to Reverend Otto R. Loverude and Edna (Taylor) Loverude. She will be laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Florida with her predeceased husband of 62 years, Donald N. Wood.
Barb grew up in Willows, California and at 10 years old, moved to Lowell, Massachusetts where she graduated from Lowell High School. She received her college degree from Burdett College and performed in the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra.
Barb and Don moved to Vestal, NY and raised their four children. Barb retired from Cablevision and became a snowbird in Homestead and Avon Park, Florida. Barb loved working in her yard, travelling, enjoying red wine, playing bridge, shopping and most importantly, gathering together with family.
Barb is survived by her son, Steve (Debra) Wood of Glastonbury, Connecticut, daughter, Kathleen “Woody” (James) Swinson of Ellicott City, Maryland, daughter, Deborah Wood (Sue) of Middletown, New York, and son, William (Deborah) Wood of Ellicott City, Maryland. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Patrick (Julia), Joanna (Rob), Kelly, Teri (Nate), Alyssa and Isabella. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Wood, her sister, Ruth Meade and her brother, James Loverude.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Park Manor for caring for their mom during covid when we couldn’t see her.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or an organization of your choice. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
