Zachary Taylor James Carey

     Zachary Taylor James Carey, a life-long resident of New Windsor, NY, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, February 19, 2018, with his devoted parents and family by his side.  Zachary was a graduate of Washingtonville High School, and also graduated with an Associate's Degree in Heavy Equipment Operations at SUNY Alfred.  Zachary was currently employed as a Crane Operator at Wheelabrator Technologies, Inc. in Peekskill, NY.

    Zachary was the beloved son of New Windsor residents, Mark and Cynthia Carey and was

23 years old.  He was born on January 10, 1995 in Poughkeepsie, NY.

    While in school, Zachary was very active in his church activities, including being ordained and installed as a youth elder.  Zachary was a blessing to his parents.  He was an active outdoor enthusiast with a zest for life.  He loved anything with an engine, especially big ones.  He thoroughly enjoyed riding on his quad or snowmobile.  He continued his childhood love for camping with recent awesome adventures with his travel trailer to Myrtle Beach, SC, Lake George and Schroon Lake, NY with his wonderful friends.  His most favorite times were shared with family and friends, sitting around a bonfire with a cold beer, country music playing, and, of course, celebrating 'Merica. 

    He loved his family and leaves behind his parents; his grandfather, Charles Newkirk; Aunts Michele (Todd) Predmore, Valerie (William) Kilcoin, and his Uncle C. Roland (Andrea) Newkirk; Uncle Jeff Carey;his cousins Michael and Christopher Predmore, Caitlin and Tyler Kilcoin, and Hope and Lily Newkirk; cousins in Texas and an Aunt and cousins in Georgia; his beloved dog, Diesel; and so many wonderful friends…all of whom were touched by his gentle, kind nature and his ever present big and beautiful smile.  He was a treasure and a gift to us all and will be missed terribly.

   He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents James and Eleanor Carey, maternal grandmother Barbara Newkirk, aunt Arlene Lewis and uncles Allen Lewis and Andrew Farkus.

   Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Cornelius, Dodd, and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, NY.  A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 23rd at Cornwall Presbyterian Church, 222 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.
