Leonard J. Johnson

   Leonard J. Johnson, a 45 year area resident, entered into rest on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, NY. He was 93 years of age.

    The son of the late Leonard and Catherine McCormick Johnson, he was born on August 23, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY.

   Leonard retired as a Detective with the N.Y.P.D. in Manhattan. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Leonard was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown and a member of the N.Y.P.D. Emerald Society, the Detectives Endowment Association, N.Y.P.D. Holy Name Society, American Legion Post No. 0001 in NY, NY and the V.F.W.

    Survivors include his sons, James J. Johnson of Valley Stream, NY and his fiancé Adicta B. Cabrera, and Leonard P. Johnson of Middletown; his grandchildren, Jessica Johnson of Scranton, PA and James Johnson Jr. of Valley Stream, NY; his sister, Catherine Mangan of New Jersey and two nieces and one nephew. Leonard was predeceased by his wife Kathryn D. Johnson on July 21, 2009.

    Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM Friday, June 8th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 AM Saturday, June 9th at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown, NY. Interment will follow in the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY with military honors.

    Memorial contributions in Leonard’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 333 Seventh Avenue, 17th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
