Gussie M. Hawkins, a 46 year area resident, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Philadelphia, PA. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Clinton A. and Ruthie Williams, she was born on July 2, 1923 in Wynne, AR.
Gussie was a retired practical nurse and was employed at the Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, NY. Gussie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Middletown and a member of the Diaconate Board, Nominating Committee, Usher Board and Adult Bible Study Group of the church. She was a member of the Health Care Union Local 1199 and the Central State Mother’s Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline M. Green of Philadelphia, PA; 3 grandchildren, Darryl Green, Cheryl Green and David H. Hawkins and his wife Reverend Janene Hawkins; 4 great grandchildren, Christian Green, Giselle Hawkins, Shelby Hawkins and Kendal Hawkins; her 4 sisters, Armenthia Henderson of Madison, AR, Sedera Hines and husband Eldred of Goshen, NY, Marilyn Foster of Compton, CA and Carolyn Deal of Compton, CA; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Gussie was predeceased by her husband David Hawkins, son David C. Hawkins, and daughter-in-law, Helen Hawkins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9-11 AM Thursday, March 8th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY. Funeral Services will begin at 11 AM with the Reverend Dr. Kenneth B. Taylor and Reverend Janene Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Wallkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg, NY.
Memorial contributions in Gussie’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 121 Executive Drive, New Windsor, NY 12553.
