Austin “A.J.” Lennon Jr., a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Friday, July 13, 2018 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, NY. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Austin James and Helen Lennon, he was born on October 22, 1939 in Walden, NY.
A.J. was a graduate of the Walden High School in Walden, received his Associate's Degree from Orange County Community College in Middletown, his Bachelor's Degree from Mount St. Mary's College in Newburgh where he was one of the first men to attend, and his Master's of Divinity from the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in So. Hamilton, MA. After his education, he served in various ministry capacities within the Presbyterian Church.
A.J. retired from the New York State Dept. of Corrections in Napanoch, NY where he served as a corrections counselor. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of The Big Red One of the 1st Infantry Division. A.J. was also a former volunteer at Orange Regional Medical Center. A.J. was a kind, generous and unique man. He loved to cook for and feed his family and friends and to share his delicious homemade spaghetti sauce.
Left to deeply mourn him are his wife, Beverly J. Lennon at home in Middletown; his daughter, Lynae Joy Blair and her husband Bill of Newburgh; his grandsons, Billy, Austin and Bryan Blair; his former wife and mother of his daughter, May R. Lennon of Pine Bush; his sister, Helen “Sooky” Quimby and her husband Bob of Ozark, MO; his brothers, Jerry Lennon and his wife Carol of Walden, Robert Lennon and his wife Liz of Cornelius, NC, and Jeff Lennon and his wife Chona of Lynchburg, VA; his brother-in-law, David Hoyt and his wife Roberta of Middletown; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat Scamp. He was predeceased by his parents, Austin and Helen Lennon.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday, July 20th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY. A Memorial Gathering will take place 11 AM Saturday, July 21st at the family home on VanBurenville Road, Middletown.
Cremation will take place at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY. Interment of A.J.’s ashes will be done privately in the Circleville Cemetery.
