Joan Baack VanCuren

– Joan Baack VanCuren, a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Sapphire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Goshen, NY. She was 90 years of age.

    The daughter of the late George P. & Florence Davis Baack, she was born on March 17, 1934 in Middletown, NY.

   Joan was retired and formerly had been employed as a Nursing Assistant at the Middletown Psychiatric Center. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Middletown where she formerly taught Sunday School.

    Joan was a resident of Mountain Avenue in Middletown for over 70 years. She was a lover of animals, especially horses. At one time she owned her own horse at her residence. Joan enjoyed spending time with her neighbors and friends.

    Survivors include: her daughters, Judith L. VanCuren Ring and her husband Wayne of Sparta, NJ and Karen L. VanCuren Whitney and her significant other, Todd Haigh of Ormond Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Kirsten V. Ring and Erik C. Ring; step granddaughter Morgan Haigh; nieces Carol Cohen and husband Sam and Elaine Heinsman and husband Douglas; and 6 grand kitties. Joan was predeceased by her husband Charles C. VanCuren, brothers George R. Baack, Francis H. Baack & Guy R. Baack and sister Doris J. Baack Kania.

    A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday, April 10th at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, April 11th at the funeral home. Reverend Hector Rivera will officiate. Interment will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery, 160 Midway Road, Middletown, NY.
